If you want a great work out and great results go check out your local CrossFit. If you are in Airdrie go to Crossfit Edge and check it out. At first I thought I would not like it and I thought I was going to be borded. But if you keep up with it you will love it and Airdrie Edge has the best instructors Nicole, Karen, Angie.

At the end of August I completed my first full Ironman. I had years of training behind me and a full year of preparation leading up to the event.  I’d like to think I am a pretty fit person, in terms of cardiovascular endurance, but really lack strength.  I’ve tried going to the gym on my own and lifting weights, but   never seem to stick with it as I get bored or never feel like I am doing the workouts properly.  I heard about crossfit through my chiropractor, who also competes in triathlon, so I decided to give it a try.  I signed up for the on-ramp program in September and after the first class my muscles never hurt so much!! Even after just finishing an Ironman! Needless to say I was hooked!!  I am so used to long solo training runs, spending hours in the pool or riding my bike for 4-6 hours at a time. It is so much fun, and so refreshing, to come to an hour long class and push yourself to the limit!  Every class is different, you never get bored, and I love having Nicole and other people in the class their to push me to go that much faster or try that much harder. Even after 4 weeks I have noticed a difference in my strength. At the end of the first class we did the Mini-Cindy WOD and I was able to complete 7 full sets, ring rows, push ups and 13 squats.  By the end of the 12 sessions when we challenged the mini-Cindy again I was able the complete 11 full sets and start on the ring rows again before the time was up.  That alone was a huge improvement! What I didn’t expect to see was a difference in my weight or measurements, but ended up getting both!  We had measurements done at the beginning of the on-ramp program and at the last class I stepped on the scale and had my measurements taken again, which showed I lost weight and inches!! Having just trained an entire year for a long distance endurance event, I didn’t think that 4 weeks of anything would make a difference, especially considering I was not doing any other training except for the 3x week crossfit workouts!! After seeing those results and feeling stronger and more confident in myself I decided to continue with crossfit and joined the regular classes.  I am really looking forward to the year ahead, as I have signed up again for Ironman Canada.  I know that adding crossfit to my training schedule is going to make a huge difference in my muscular endurance and strength, I just can’t wait to see the results!

I always considered myself a fairly active person who plays organized sports, runs and was overall healthy. Last May I was looking for more of a challenge for fitness and something that pushed me and got me into a routine. I read about CrossFit online and attended a trial session at CrossFit Edge Airdrie. What a wake up call! I left my one hour session with legs that felt like jelly, no feeling whatsoever in my arms, no breath and a craving for more!

Ten months later I find myself reaching for new goals, having achieved the ones I have set for myself in the beginning. My body is stronger than it has ever been, I also have noticed a huge difference in my other fitness abilities outside of CrossFit, thanks to this new strength. The combination of strength training, cardio and balance has paid off in many ways and always leaves room to grow as well. Nicole and the team at CrossFit Edge Airdrie  is so welcoming. The small groups and intimate atmosphere have really created the perfect environment full of encouragement and motivation. I highly recommend anyone to at least give CrossFit a try!

Nearing the end of my second pregnancy, I decided that I was done with being overweight.  My midwifes gave me the all clear to start regular exercise at 2 weeks postpartum, so I started looking into what I wanted to do.  I was inspired by my sister and a friend who are both crossfitters, so I looked into local gyms, and was really excited when I found there was a CrossFit gym in Airdrie.  I signed up for a free trial and did my first CrossFit workout at 4 weeks postpartum.  I was impressed right away with the amount of support and encouragement I received while there for my trial.  The workout was challenging and rewarding.  As well, Nicole watched and coached me to make sure that I didn’t push myself to do anything that could be too much considering I just had a baby.

My goal when starting CrossFit was to get to my pre-pregnancy baby shape in a year.  Well, between Nicole’s and the other crossfitters un-waivering support, eating paleo, and working my butt off at CrossFit, I have gotten back to my pre-pregnancy baby 1 size in 5 months!  I love the crossfit workouts, I am never bored, and they are always challenging.  I look forward to getting stronger and fitter with every WOD I complete! Thanks Nicole, and CrossFit Edge Airdrie
