WE WANT YOU — FOR THE 2012 CROSSFIT GAMES OPEN!
Well, the 2012 Crossfit Games are drawing near! The Crossfit Games Open will take place from February 22 to March 25. The Open is an online competition that will consist of one workout per week during those five weeks.
Who can enter? Anyone. That’s right, anyone. You don’t need a sub-3-minute Fran or a 450 Fight Gone Bad. Anyone with any fitness level or any Crossfit experience can compete. It’s my hope that we can rally every Crossfit Edge member to enter.
I know the word “compete” causes some of you to curl up in a ball and cry in the shower, and I know some of you don’t feel fit enough to enter.
So trust me when I say that, in my experience, there’s no such thing as “fit enough.” No one is ever “fit enough” to enter. It’s like waiting until you’re totally ready to have a baby.
Fear about fitness is often tied to a deeper fear of competing. I know some people have stress and fear about competition — no one wants to do poorly or look bad in front of other people. There’s nothing wrong with that.
Many of you know I’m a pretty logical girl. I know my current PRs so trust me when I say that I don’t compete in the Games because I hope to win them. I also don’t compete in the Games because I like to lose. No, I compete because I have never seen people work harder, push themselves more, or come together as a tighter community than for the Games. They’re also a total blast!
My experience of the Games Open, one that I hope we can all take part in, is that they’re a rare chance to push yourself to a different level, and they’re also your chance to deepen your ties to the Crossfit Edge community as well as the larger Crossfit community across the world.
The Crossfit Games Open will take place from February to March. There will be one workout posted per week. As a gym, we’ll come together to perform these workouts and submit the scores to the Open website, which will post and track scores submitted from around the world.
You’ll be able to compete in three categories: Individual, Team, or Masters (45-years-plus).
What can you expect if you enter the Games Open? No matter if you’ve been at the gym 10 days or 10 years — it will be hard work, you’ll test yourself, you’ll push yourself (and others!), and you’ll have a great time in great company.
